Jonathan M. Rose was born and raised in Sussex County, NJ. He is a graduate of High Point Regional High School and an Eagle Scout. He went to Rutgers University for college, where he majored in physics, computer science and mathematics. He also holds a planning certificate from the Edward J. Bloustein School of Public Policy.

Upon graduating from college, Jonathan returned to the county and started a computer consulting business here. He purchased a house in Sussex Borough in 2002. Soon thereafter, he was appointed to the Sussex Borough Land Use Board. In 2004, Jonathan was appointed to an unexpired term on the Sussex Borough Council. He ran in the election that year, but was defeated by a single vote. He ran again in 2005 and won by a large margin. Jonathan served two terms on the Sussex Borough Council before running for mayor in 2011. He won the mayoral race and has served as mayor of Sussex from 2012 through 2015. In 2015, he ran for and was elected to the Sussex County Freeholder Board, where he currently serves.

In his spare time, Jonathan likes to hunt, target shoot, ski and hike.
